problem with hearing, and its associated symptoms (like dizziness and tinnitus ….
the ringing noises in the ear), and its associated functions (like speech, voice, and
language development). If you think that you or a loved one has a problem do come in for a consultation
at any one of our four practices, and take that step towards a better quality of life.

Basic Hearing Testing

A basic hearing test, is conducted in a sound proof booth, and measures hearing sensitivity across the frequency range between 250Hz and 8KHz.The results are plotted onto an audiogram, which depicts whether hearing is within normal limits or if a hearing loss is present. If a hearing loss is present more tests are performed to determine the nature and extent of the hearing loss.

Additional Hearing Tests

  • Speech audiometry

    – determines ability to discriminate words

  • Tympanogram

    – tests the eardrum, middle ear and Eustachian tube function

  • Acoustic Reflexes Test (ART)

    – measures the middle ear muscle reflex

  • Oto-Acoustic Emissions (OAE)

    – measures the function of the outer hair cells of the cochlea (inner ear)

  • Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER)

    – evaluates the integrity of the auditory pathway up to the level of the brainstem

  • Auditory Steady State Response (ASSR)

    – an objective electro-physiological test that plots hearing thresholds over a wide frequency range

  • Electronystagmograpghy (ENG) and Videonystagmography (VNG)

    – evaluates the part of the inner that controls balance, for patients who experience dizziness or imbalance

How does treating hearing loss help with stress?

The intensive listening effort demanded by untreated hearing loss can be extremely stressful.

Experts believe that even if you have just a mild hearing loss that is not being treated, cognitive load increases significantly. Research shows that when left unaddressed, hearing loss is frequently associated with other physical, mental, and emotional health issues that reduce quality of life.
